Question: How much will it cost to automate my home?
Answer: Each custom design is unique and varies depending on the
size of the home and the homeowners’ personal interests. Select Automation can design
custom solutions based on the homeowners’ budget, regardless of size. Typically,
a complete structured wiring installation will run approximately $2 per square foot.
Question: How much does a custom design cost?
Answer: A custom design begins with a small retainer. Our design
and project management time is billed out at a rate of $75 per hour.
Question: Can I use my existing equipment?
Answer: Yes. A Select Automation designer will research your equipment
and determine the best way to incorporate it into your custom solution.
Question: What kind of warranty do I get?
Answer:
Please see the Select Automation Service Agreement
Question: Is my equipment protected from lightning strikes?
Answer: Although your equipment will be protected against brown outs, black outs
and power spikes, SA cannot guarantee it will be 100% protected from lightning strikes.
Therefore, SA recommends that home owners have their electrician install a lightning
surge protector to protect the entire house.
Question: What happens when the power
goes out?
Answer: Your vital equipment (security, access controls, camera systems)
will be protected with backup batteries and uninterruptible power supplies. When
the power comes back on, your home system will automatically begin functioning normally
(the programming and memory is stored and maintained).
Question: How long will it take to automate my home?
Answer: Select Automation works in ‘phases’. Each phase will
work in line with the current phase of construction.

Question: Is the standard low voltage wiring run by my builder adequate for automation?
Answer: Yes. There are automation solutions that can be installed using existing
security wiring, wireless technologies, and inexpensive cat5 (typical in basic home
pre-wires). However, many feature-rich solutions will require additional wiring.
Question: Does Select Automation monitor security systems?
Answer: No. We design and install complete security systems, however, we do not
monitor the systems ourselves. We have a recommended list of approved monitoring
companies we rely on for this.
Question: How much space do I need for the equipment rack?
Answer: We recommend you have at least a 3’ x 3’ room or closet
dedicated for the equipment rack. However if this is not possible, your SA designer
will help make recommendations for an appropriate location to house your equipment.
Question: How does SA work with builders and developers?
Answer: Our designers and installers work extremely well with builders. We
understand and respect the amount of work involved with scheduling jobs to be complete,
meeting timelines, and dealing with change orders. We will always educate builders
and help make them feel comfortable working with us. Our designers will
work hand-in-hand with architects and interior designers as well.
Question: What if I’m only interested in one type of automation?
Answer: Select Automation offers targeted packaged solutions.
